Abstract
Umbilical vessel catheterization has become a common procedure in critically ill newborn infants. The use of an indwelling catheter in umbilical vessel can lead to improved care of sick infants; however, it may also lead to serious complications.
It has
been recognized that critically ill newborns who have required umbilical artery catheterization and have developed sepsis, usually staphylococci, are at risk for the development of mycotic aneurysmal disease of the aorta or its branches or both.
We
report a case who had died due to ruptured aortic aneurysm complicated by umbilical artery catheterization and methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus sepsis.
